ACTING

NEW AGE
SYNOPSIS:

Ronnie is a "good girl". She is a barista-by-day, musician-by-night with a carefully constructed schedule of work, hanging out with her girlfriend Ash and her best friend Mia. But when Ash breaks up with her and she is fired from the coffee shop, Ronnie's world comes crashing down and she is forced to face her demons. With the help of her best friend Mia and a host of characters they meet along the way, Ronnie embarks on a journey of self-discovery around New York City. Can she release her insecurities and step into her true self before her gig that night? New Age is a powerful LGBTQIA+ coming of age story about friendship, love, community, authenticity, freedom; and the magic of New York City.

Honest LGBTQIA+ representation is still disappointingly hard to come by. Sure, there's a lesbian in your new favorite Netflix film - but is her storyline disposable? Almost certainly. I aim to create films which AUTHENTICALLY represent queer individuals, and don't stereotype.
How can someone find that freedom which TRULY allows them to BE, without fear of judgment or ridicule? Even from themselves? This is the question New Age seeks to answer- a deeply personal but universal question in an increasingly scared world.
So who are we?
Rae Larz [Co-Director, Lead Actor, Co-Producer] As a queer actor, director, & musician who's battled insecurity and shame most of my life, I will represent our main character with honesty. I've always had an adventurous spirit. It led me to move to NYC at age 18 for acting school, to France at age 21 for my documentary "All There Is", which won "Best Director of a Feature Documentary" at the NICE International Film Festival, and to Bali at 22 for yoga training. This determination to accomplish my vision is crystal clear, and I don't stop in the face of fear. I'm scared and do it anyway. That's the sort of fire I want to ignite in audience members.
I'm working with two of the most fabulous Producers out there. Not only is this film FEMALE-LED, it is also Queer-led. Here's a few key details about our production team:
Sophie Max [Writer, Co-Producer, Co-Director] is an actor, writer and producer trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Her award-winning film The Whole Truth screened recently at the BAFTA and Academy Award-qualifying Flickers' RIIFF, the UN Women Global Voices Film Festival, LA Femme International Film Festival, NYC Independent Film Festival, MAM Fest and Prague International Indie Film Festival, where it won multiple awards, including Best Film and Best Female Director.
Marisa Cole [Co-Producer, 1st AD] is a Michigan born and raised classically-trained actress with over 15 years of experience. Marisa received her associates in Theatre from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She is excited for this next step as Producer on the set of New Age.
With good energy and artistic fervor,
Rae Larz
